The Sherilyn (2018) series was a portrait project in which I invited my friends to inhabit the guise of "Sherilyn" - a drag character/alter-ego I had created, exploring female sadness and longing, and traditional aesthetic motifs of "femininity". I once planned to write and record an album as Sherilyn but it never came to light. Instead she made a one night only appearance at drag night Travesty at Edinburgh College of Art's Wee Red bar in late 2017, performing a medley of Nancy Sinatra's 'Bang Bang' and Britney Spears' 'Baby One More Time'. I felt i had carried her around for so long, this project was my way of putting her down and letting her go.
